Sayyid Dynasty (1414 – 1451 AD)
- By 1413, the Tughlaq dynasty ended completely and local governor occupied Delhi and given way to Sayyid Dynasty.
- In 1398, Timur, the Turkish chief invaded India and robbed Indian wealth. While returning back, he appointed Khizr Khan as the governor of Delhi.
- Khizr Khan had taken Delhi from Daulat Khan Lodi and founded Sayyid dynasty in 1414. Sayyid dynasty ruled Delhi until 1451.
- In 1421, Khizr Khan died, hence, his son Mubarrak Khan succeeded. Mubarrak Khan represented himself as ‘Muizz-ud-Din Mubarak Shah’ on his coins.
- Mubarrak Khan ruled till 1434 and he was succeeded by his nephew Muhammad Shah. Muhammad Shah ruled till 1445.
- Muhammad succeeded by Ala-ud-din Alam Sham, who ruled till 1451. In 1451, Bahlul Lodi became the Sultan and founded the Lodi dynasty.
Khizr khan 1414-21 AD
Timur nominee captured Delhi and was proclaimed the new sultan
He was the first of the Sayyid dynasty which ruled over Delhi and surrounding districts
he helped Timur in his invasion so was given the governship of Lahore
Khizr Khan took the title of Rayat-i-Ala and not of a king
The coins were struck and Khutba was read in the name of Timur and his successor Shahrukh
Khizr Khans three successors were incapable rulers.
Mubarak Shah led successful expeditions againsts Mewatis, Katehars and the Gangeti Doab area.
He was killed and deposed by the nobles.
Mubarak Shah – 1421-34 AD
He succeeded Khizr at the throne after his successful expeditions against Mewatis Katehars and the Gangetic Doab area.
He was killed by the nobles in his own court.
Muhammad Shah – 1434-43 AD
The nobles put Muhammad Shah on the throne but he could not survive the in-fighting among the nobles in the court
He was authorized to rule only a meagre area around 30 miles and rest of the Sultanate was ruled by nobles
Alam Shah – 1443-51 AD
The last Sayyid king descended in favour of Bahlol Lodhi and retired
Lodi Dynasty came after Sayyid dynasty and ruled until A.D. 1526.
